Gone are the days when masquerades were dreaded due to the brutality they meted out to people as some of them have put on a human face in this 21st century.

A masquerade was pictured helping a motorcyclist deal with a problematic bike during last year's Calabar Carnival in Cross River which was well publicized.

"Only in Calabar carnival you will see masquerade running after bikers, when I was young i used to think that masquerade are spirit sent by the gods, But 21 first century masquerade as prove me wrong" a social media user said.

Last year, a masquerade was pictured actively engaged in sports betting.

Man storms Akwa Ibom orphanage to poison son who almost killed him in a dream Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network, (CRARN) Children Center in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, has accused 53-year-old Edem Okon, of storming the orphanage to kill one of son taking refuge there. In a statement released by Sam Itauma, the head of CRARN, Okon came to the orphanage with a hidden bread laced with poison made from a local berry called, Esere or Calabar beans. “Okon came with the sole aim of killing one of his two sons under our care.
